Low-bed semi-trailers feature a sunken cargo carrying deck known as a drop deck. The deck height usually ranges from 0.8 to 1.2 meters. This ultra-low layout lowers the overall center of gravity, effectively boosting driving stability and lowering the risk of vehicle rollover. Thanks to its low-slung design, the trailer can smoothly pass under bridges and tunnels, while also bringing down the gravity center of carried goods. Its recessed cargo area sits between the front gooseneck and rear wheel assemblies, with the gooseneck built as one unified component — this is how the equipment got its popular name, low-bed semi-trailer. In certain regions, it is also called lowboy or low loader semi-trailer. Standard load capacities span 20 to 100 tons, while multi-axle models customized can support payloads exceeding 300 tons.

Multi-axle low-bed semi-trailers are defined as units fitted with four or more axles. Many nations mandate such designs due to local highway laws that cap the maximum weight each single axle can bear. For example, several Central Asian countries set the single axle load limit at 8 tons. Accordingly, transporting 100-ton heavy cargo requires low-bed semi-trailers equipped with 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 axles.

When there are a large number of axles, fixed axles cannot meet the turning and passing requirements.

If all axles adopt the fixed type, the overall turning radius will be too large, leading to poor practical use performance.

3.1 M ulti axles low bed trailer with hydraulic lifting steering suspension

This low-bed semi-trailer manufactured by SHIYUN comes fitted with hydraulic lifting and steering suspension assemblies. Relying on the hydraulic turntable mounted at the front fifth wheel, all axles can perform synchronized steering movements. The suspension system supports two working modes: full integrated platform lifting and independent height adjustment for individual single axles.

By adjusting hydraulic oil pressure, the system delivers elastic supporting force and vehicle posture control. Its key capabilities cover cushioning uneven road surfaces, mitigating vibration and impact forces to safeguard both the trailer structure and loaded cargo. Additionally, it allows precise chassis height tuning to fit various loading weights and rough road terrain, optimizes driving stability and ride smoothness, and supports rapid leveling and lifting operations.

The hydraulic system’s core advantage lies in hydraulic power amplification, which cuts steering resistance and lessens driver fatigue. It also accelerates steering response and boosts control precision. This guarantees excellent handling performance when carrying heavy loads, moving at low speeds for port loading/unloading and construction site work, or traveling on complicated roadways. It minimizes steering drift, enhances overall driving stability, and meets the high steering load demands brought by oversized heavy machinery transport. The built-in hydraulic cylinders primarily serve to adjust chassis height, which significantly upgrades the vehicle’s off-road passing capability on challenging routes.

Lifting Hydraulic Cylinders

As the key execution parts of the hydraulic circuit, these cylinders transform hydraulic pressure into mechanical linear motion. They supply high-thrust, high-precision power output for heavy-duty semi-trailers and similar transport equipment. Their main applications include suspension load bearing, chassis posture adjustment (like height modification), and power control for other chassis components.

Steering Performance

This low-bed semi-trailer adopts a mixed axle layout: fixed axles paired with hydraulically steerable axles to realize splay-angle turning functions. The steerable axles reach a maximum turning angle of 55 degrees. The whole steering system operates with the support of a hydraulic power pack and manual control valves to complete all turning actions.

3.2 M ulti axles low bed trailer with air bag suspension

Hydraulic lifting and steering multi-axle low-bed trailers come with a relatively high cost. As an alternative model, the multi-axle low-bed trailer with liftable air suspension is a more economical option. Air suspension can be equipped with WABCO lifting control handles, The whole vehicle is generally equipped with air suspension, which enables both integral lifting of the entire platform and independent lifting of each single axle. When turning, to reduce the turning radius, the tires of the front three or four axles can be lifted to achieve a smaller turning radius.In addition, 1 to 2 follow-up steering axles can be added to further minimize the turning radius and deliver more flexible traveling and steering performance.

The standard minimum width is 2 meters, while most customers choose a width between 2.5 meters and 3 meters. We can also customize trailers with a maximum width of up to 6 meters as per your needs. In addition to fixed-width designs, we can equip extendable brackets to achieve flexible conversion between different loading widths.

• DMulti-axle low-bed semi-trailers feature an extended overall body; installing a length-adjustable telescopic structure can significantly optimize the vehicle’s turning agility. Pneumatic locking pins are adopted for the telescopic mechanism to adjust the stretched length and lock the position securely. The system supports single-section telescopic travel, alongside combined single and double-section extension operations.

Two main beam options are offered for customers: double-beam telescopic configuration and single-beam telescopic design. The well-engineered stretchable extension beam stands as another core competitive edge of SHIYUN low-bed semi-trailers.

Instead of standard Q345 structural steel, our telescopic beams are fabricated from high-strength Q550 steel plates.
